Acting as technical authority within Aeronautical Servies, the role ensures the integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness of navigation data supporting all scheduled and non-scheduled operations. The Analyst leads the identification, analysis, and resolution of navigation data issues with direct impact on flight safety, operational continuity, and aircraft capability.The position provides specialized technical expertise in navigation database management, aeronautical data quality assurance, operational procedure validation, and cross-functional operational integration. Decisions and recommendations made within the role directly influence flight safety, dispatch capability, operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and fleet operational readiness.
Responsibilities:Navigation Data Governance & AIRAC Management
Own and administer end-to-end FMS and TAWS database production, validation, and release cycles in alignment with Aeronautical Information Regulation and Control (AIRAC) schedulesValidate, verify, and authorize release of navigation databases across all fleet types and avionics platformsEnsure data integrity, traceability, and compliance with regulatory and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirementsManage configuration control across multiple vendor platforms (Jeppesen, Honeywell, Collins, ACRON)Ensure readiness of navigation data for all scheduled and ad hoc operations, including charters.Maintain governance processes aligned with applicable aeronautical data quality standards, including DO-200A and DO-201A
Safety, Operational Integrity, and Technical Risk ManagementAct as the operational technical authority for navigation database integrity and associated operational risk management activitiesMonitor and assess aeronautical data changes, Nav Data Alerts, permanent NOTAMs, airspace amendments, and environmental changes and operational procedures updatesIssue Company NOTAMs and Crew Alerts where required to mitigate operational riskLead resolution of FMS,TAWS, and FPN uplink anomalies affecting dispatch reliability and flight safety.Perform AIRAC-cycle magnetic variation conformity analysis for Boeing fleets by comparing Boeing IRS MAGVAR tables against coded FMS navigation database values and escalating deviations with operational impact.Generate AIRAC-cycle runway validation exposure assessments supporting Airbus TAWS/ROPS operational governance processesSupport airport authorization processes, including feasibility and implementation assessments.
Procedure Validation, Coding and Operational ComplianceValidate, compare, and process RNAV, RNP AR, GLS, and other advanced instrument proceduresCode and maintain Air Canada proprietary procedures in accordance with ARINC 424 standardsEnsure compliance with ICAO PANS-OPS, Transport Canada, and OEM criteriaSupport procedure exceptions, exclusions, and database representation of operational limitationsMaintain internal procedure libraries and coding standards across fleet typesProvide technical expertise supporting Flight Standards, Chief Pilots, Flight Dispatch, Flight Operations Engineering, and Aircraft Performance Engineering groups.
Vendor and System ManagementLead vendor engagement and technical resolution with FMS and TAWS data providersManage performance, delivery quality, and issue escalation across multiple vendorsMaintain production systems, tools, and hardware supporting database compilation cycles
Cross-functional Integration & Industry RepresentationProvide technical authority and support to key operational stakeholders, including Line Operations, Chief Pilots, Flight Dispatch, Flight Standards, Flight Training Systems Operations Control (SOC), Aircraft Performance Engineering, Maintenance and Engineering.Support implementation of new operational capabilities, avionics upgrades, route authorizations, and aircraft entry-into-service activities.Participate in operational readiness activities supporting new airports, airspace modernization initiatives, and advanced navigation capabilities.Ensure alignment of navigation data with electronic flight bag (EFB), flight planning, and performance systemsRepresent Air Canada at industry forums, working groups, and OEM engagementsLiaise with peer airlines on best practices, emerging risks, and database issues
QualificationsCollege diploma or university degree in aviation, engineering, or a related technical field3+ years of experience in Flight Operations, Flight Dispatch, Aeronautical Services, or Technical Services within a Part 705 environmentDemonstrated expertise in FMS navigation data, database production, and operational integrationStrong knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs 705) and applicable ICAO standardsAdvanced knowledge of:ARINC 424 coding structuresICAO PANS-OPS procedure design criteriaAeronautical data quality and integrity frameworks (e.g., DO-200A/DO-201A)Proficiency with FMS and TAWS vendor software platforms (Jeppesen, Honeywell, Collins, ACSS)Private Pilot Licence (PPL) with IFR ground school considered an assetStrong analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making capabilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence across operational groupsProficiency in Microsoft 365 applicationsDemonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment
